What Are Living Amends? And How Do You Make Them? Cake Blog Cake: Create a Free End of Life Plan

Even after getting treatment, many people find themselves turning to drugs or alcohol because they don’t know how to live a sober lifestyle. Living Amends understands that aftercare is an essential part of long-term sobriety. This scholarship program gives those in recovery the opportunity to fund their first three months in a sober living community.

Because of the scholarship I received, I have been given the blessing of getting to live in a supportive home filled with other women working the program. I have also been graced with enough time to settle into this new area and find employment. I am very happy to say that I am on my third week here at Mir House, and I am doing better than I could have ever imagined. The home has been extremely welcoming, and I have been blessed enough to find a well-paying job. I couldn’t imagine getting where I am today without the aid of the Living Amends scholarship. They started pulling information, and when they came back with the amount I would need to enter, I was disappointed and at a loss.

Being given a scholarship allowed me to have the time and supportive environment I needed to make those changes. It was at Ascension House that I learned what working a strong program looked like and how working the program could change my life. The scholarship and the chance to live and learn at Ascension House is part of why I am sober today.

Work on your relationships

You can start making amends by showing up, even if it’s years later, to do the things you said you’d do. Apologies can only go so far in repairing past pain, but it’s a place where you need to begin to heal. Make a list of everyone you’ve made promises to that you didn’t fulfill, the people you’ve lied to, stolen from, or hurt in any way because of who you used to be, and apologize sincerely. Living amends, in this event, can include making changes to the behaviors contributing to the falling out between the survivor and the person they owed an apology to. For example, let’s say a mother didn’t make an effort to escort her children to the school bus stop. One of her children is killed crossing the street on their own even after telling their mother that they were afraid to cross the busy street alone.

Women’s

We are small and run by woman in long term sobriety who are passionate about helping the next suffering addict or alcoholic. We want the candidates to become active living amends scholarship members of the society and begin to pay back some to their debt. By signing this agreement, recipient agrees and accepts to all the terms stated above and giving 100% to his/her new life in recovery.

These promises are often the most difficult to keep because addiction plays a decisive role in a person’s ability to live up to their promises. Their parent may feel more pain for their addicted child’s inability to get sober than the material items lost due to the thefts. Another example is a substance or alcohol-addicted adult child who regularly steals money, jewelry, and other valuable items from their elderly parent’s home. However, they may suddenly feel guilty and decide to change their ways.

Doing so ensures that the person you help will also benefit other people. When I spoke to my counselor about it, she said she would talk to some people about a scholarship. My dad’s friend Whitney Welch from Living Amends decided to scholarship me into sober living. That was 255 days ago—eight months of sobriety from a guy who couldn’t get eight days. So far, sober living has taught me how to pay bills, be accountable for my actions, how to be a member of a community, and to be the best sober gentlemen I can be. If I hadn’t received help along this journey, I wouldn’t have succeeded.

We require recipients to pay 25% of the first month’s rent at their sober living facility. In the second month, if they reapply and successfully are awarded the second month’s rent, the resident will pay 50% of the rent. If they receive that scholarship, they’ll pay 75% of that month’s rent. We believe that having the recipient help pay the bills empowers them and gives them a stake in their sobriety. Living Amends is committed to helping people in the Central Texas area stay sober for extended periods of time. We seek true partnerships to allow you to become fully self-supporting.

I did new inventories, made amends, and for some great peace of mind that continues to this day. I now sponsor several guys in the community and have gone into business for myself. I also have a new profession in the sobriety field that feels like a calling.

Fortunately, when you apply for the scholarship from Living Amends, you have assistance in paying for the support you need. We’ll help you fund your first three months living in one of our sober living partners. To apply for one of our scholarships, complete the form below.

Hello, my name is Jordan, and I am writing to you about the importance of scholarships in sober living. Most drug addicts have no money saved and have torn down every relationship we have ever participated in. Most of our families have spent countless dollars on lawyers, bondsmen, treatments, and our debts to help us. By the time we have a clear understanding of what sober living is, we have no means to pay the up-front money to be accepted into the home. Most of us go back to drugs and alcohol because we have no options but to move back into the same situation that we previously found ourselves in. Once we award the scholarship, the recipient must agree to all terms sent by email.

Living amends refers to making promises to the people in your life whom you’ve wronged or who have hurt you. Don’t let a lack of funds keep you from living a healthier, drug-free lifestyle. To learn more about our scholarship, contact Living Amends today by using the contact form below.

I have a clear head, an open heart and a desire to live and I am so very grateful you chose to grant me this gift. We will support individuals in recovery with a track record of already investing in their recovery by attending residential treatment and are planning to attend sober living. At Living Amends, we understand lack of finances is the main reason most clients do not follow through with a sober living environment. By this time, insurance has run out, and families are exhausted.

Therefore we never give 100% scholarship and steadily decrease the amount over time. During the second month, the applicant must reapply with second month application about how the grant has impacted their sobriety. To learn about how your donation can impact someone’s life, please contact us today. These grants are competitive, and a limited number will be awarded each month.

When a person has died, you can still make amends for your actions. Although, you’ll have to find a different way to do so and in a way that makes a lasting impact on you and the people you love who are still here. The reason I’m applying again is because I probably won’t get paid until the middle of next month. Doubt I will get it in time… If I get it at all but I just need a little more help. I have a decent place to live, a good, accessible job on the way and I’m rock solid in my sobriety.
